Returned to this book, “Mysteries of the Rectangle” by Siri Hustvedt, after many years and was wowed by it all over again.
Loved the essay treating Vermeer’s Woman with a Pearl Necklace as an Annunciation painting, loved the essays on Goya, including the close look at the way Goya distorts physical space in “The Caprichos” and the comparison of Goya’s “Third of May” to David’s “Marat Assassinated.” Lots to savor about Chardin, Gustin, and Morandi, too.
Highly recommended.
